Wonder Women Meets Again March

Any sex related topics definitely would create interest and draw a good crowd. And draw a crowd we did in February despite being "Chap Goh Meh" night. Many of course looked forward to the Q & A session at the end and the was no stopping the throwing wild questions at the Prof!!!Thanks Prof George Lee for being such a sport.

Our March topic will definitely ground most people. It is a very humbling and yet realistic experience. 2007's Global Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October saw Wonder Women hosting "The Teddy Bears' Tea Party" to launch Dr. Annie Smith's book – "Bearing Up With Cancer" which relates her journey through the eyes of her alter-ego – A Teddy Bear.

Proceeds were channeled back to Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA). The event was supported by BCWA, The College of Radiology Malaysia, Hospis Malaysia, Professor Yip Cheng Har, consultant breast surgeon and sponsored by Just Heavenly Cakes, Mr. Ho Ko Yew – lawyer by profession and pianist by passion, Ms Sarah Shahrum, The Attic and Lorraine Tan.

One individual who has benefited from BCWA and Hospis Malaysia is Belinda Bateman who will be with us on the 27th of March to share her amazing and incredible journey.

Maxnetic also held a charity bazaar and fashion show in support of breast cancer awareness last year October at Marmalade Cafe in Bangsar Village 2.

Dr. Evelyn Ho

The President of The College of Radiology – will also be present to stress the

importance of self breast examination and answer your questions.

BELINDA BATEMAN

Belinda was recently diagnosed with cancer and she was forced to quit her job which was her sole source of income for herself and her daughter Renayy. Belinda is a single mom.

Having grown up with congenital multiple arthogryposis, Belinda had to overcome and face social biasness in society from an early age. This biasness has unfortunately led on till this day. Nonetheless Belinda strove on through life and eventually gave birth to a beautiful daughter Renayy. It was said that the chances of Belinda’s offspring being born with similar congenital deformities was one in a million, and true to form, Renayy they was that millionth baby.

As if growing up with a disability that slashed her job scope in half wasn’t bad enough, (though she did eventually get a job as a teacher) then onto having to raise Renayy as a single mother, Belinda, at 38,was diagnosed with cancer, and was asked to resign by her company after they paid for her lumpectomy.

Now, with no job, hardly any savings, high treatment costs, social stigma of being a single mother, as well as working with her physical disability, Belinda turned to EPF, Socso, and Welfare for help. And rightly so, as one would think to do in her position.

Now anyone in their rightful mind would be able to take just one look at Belinda and note that she was in fact disabled, and in serious needs of funding for both her and her daughter. With no family or friends being able to support her. Most of us would think that the story ended with a happy scene in which Belinda got the money and the treatment she so rightfully needed, and that life is much easier for her today.

Regrettably that didn’t happen; instead she was told that both EPF and Socso needed to take time out to “Investigate” her condition and situation. In other words, for now not only does Belinda not have any funds to fund both her and her daughter, no one is helping her, not even those who should and can.
